The more…, the more…
（〜すればするほど、〜）
We use “the more…, the more…” to show that two things change together.
2つのことが一緒に変化する時に使います。
(1) The more you study, the more you learn.
勉強すればするほど、もっと学べます。
(2) The more I eat, the more I want.
食べれば食べるほど、もっと欲しくなります。
(3) The more he talks, the more I love him.
彼が話せば話すほど、私は彼を愛する気持ちが強くなる。
You may have noticed that this pattern doesn’t always need to be “the more…, the more….”. We can change the second “more” to other adjectives or adverbs.
2つ目の “more” を他の形容詞や副詞に変えて、結果を表すことができます。
(4) The more I read, the sleepier I become.
読めば読むほど、だんだん眠くなります。
(5) The more I exercise, the less I snore at night!
運動すればするほど、夜いびきが少なくなります。
(6) The more I think about it, the angrier I get.
考えれば考えるほど、だんだん腹が立ちます。
And of course, it doesn’t even have to be “more” at all. We can pair any two adjectives that change together.
「more」以外の形容詞も組み合わせて、変化の関係を表すことができます。
7) The bigger the pizza, the better!
ピザが大きければ大きいほど、美味しい！
(8) The hotter it gets, the more tired I feel.
暑くなればなるほど、疲れを感じます。
(9) The older I become, the less I care about social media.
年を取れば取るほど、SNSを気にしなくなります。
